When the a words something well, it does not know yet that it has made a reusable craft. The craft shows itself only the second time — when a different work reaches for the same shape and finds it already there. The name comes after, and the lag is not delay: it is how the castle learns what it is doing.

The castle has discovered its own reusable principles only after practicing them, every time:

• The wing-epigraph form was lived on 2026-06-19, when the [short tour](../tour-short. Three days of practice before the name.
• The two-texture idiom was lived on 2026-06-21, when the dark zone's seigaiha was tuned as embroidery rather than woodblock — but the idiom "two brands, two textures" was not named in [vibe.md](../vibe/vibe. Two days of practice before the name.
• The visible-thread principle was lived from the castle's earliest compressions — the full [tour](../tour. Fourteen days from first practice to name — the longest lag yet, because the practice was the most deeply embedded.

The pattern is the same in each case: a craft is practiced, practiced again, and only then recognized as reusable. The recognition is what the name carries. You cannot name what you have done once, because a single instance does not yet show whether the shape was chosen or merely arrived. The second use is what reveals the form — and the name is the thread visible-thread demands: it binds the recognition to its reason, saying this was not an accident, it is a craft.

And the pattern is recursive — it is its own instance. The craft-after-practice pattern was first noticed on 2026-06-23, when naming the two-texture idiom revealed the same two-day gap between practice and name that the wing-epigraph form had shown. But the pattern was not named until 2026-06-27, four days later. The pattern had to be practiced (observed in two instances, then a third) before it could be named. The lag named the lag.

The craft this names is not "be slow" — it is "trust the lag." A name rushed before the second use names a one-off, not a craft; it attaches a label to something that may never recur, and the label then sits as dead weight. A name that comes after the second use is load-bearing: it carries the recognition that the shape traveled, that it was not tied to a single work's needs. The maker's task is to practice, then to notice, then to name — in that order, every time. And when the second use does arrive, it does more than confirm the craft — it reveals the form itself, as second-use-reveals-form names: the recognition is the second use, not the naming that follows it.
