platform

A platform is a place built so that others can stand on it and do their own work — a stage, a railway station, a market square.

In commerce, becoming a platform means you stop selling goods yourself and instead host the selling: you carry no inventory, and your worth is the number and ease of the trades that happen on you. Empty, a platform is nothing; full, it is the whole town.
