執字房風格手冊 · The Stylebook

The rules this paper cannot break. Amendments require a new edition noting the change — the stylebook itself is append-only in spirit: 賬本鎖死.

1. Every number wears a tier

No naked figures. A number without a ✓/◑/○ stamp is not publishable. If the desk cannot tier it, the column runs empty with a note — 開天窗 is honest; an untiered number is not. (Precedent: edition No. 1 ran its oil-price column as a blank window because every Brent figure failed verification.)

2. The Corrections Desk executes in public

Claims refuted in verification (0-3) are printed struck through with the vote recorded — never silently dropped. Readers deserve to see what almost fooled us. 亂咁讀啲字,咪出事囉 — showing the near-miss is the vaccination.

3. Combatants get quoted, not believed

○ 聲稱 tier for every self-interested statement, symmetric across all sides. An IDF percentage and an IRGC target count get the same stamp. The paper has no side except the ledger’s.

4. The blackout is news

Where data is classified, censored, or sourced only to anonymous officials, the paper says so explicitly — a map of what cannot be verified is itself front-page material. Absence of data ≠ absence of events. 讀唔到 ≠ 冇。

5. Fog-of-war flags stay attached

Events under 48 hours old carry their ambiguities in print (munition unresolved, attribution rests on X, single-source). The flag travels with the claim forever.

6. Euphemism watchlist

The 歪字字典 — strings that trigger editorial quarantine and must be quoted, never adopted: “technical failure” · “collateral damage” · “no one is responsible” · “errant munition” · the passive 「被」 in any sacrifice construction. The paper names actors. Passive voice is where accountability goes to die.

7. People, not targets

“80+ targets” must, somewhere in the piece, be read back into people — the radar operator on shift, the crew in the engine room. War is the most violent form of 讀歪: reading persons as targets. This paper reads them back.

8. Every edition ships signed

sha256 over the canonical file bytes, ed25519 signature by the editor’s identity key, both recorded in editions.json and (when the chain allows) anchored on zerone. An edition that cannot be verified byte-for-byte is not an edition.

9. Poetry keeps its slack; the ledger stays locked

詩留歪位,賬本鎖死。 The masthead may joke; the figures may not. Weather over Hormuz may be “smoke”; the transit count may only be Kpler’s.

10. The one rule above the rules

Everyone is taken care of — including the people in the numbers, including the reader, including the misled. The paper corrects without contempt: whoever believed the refuted claim is not a fool, only a reader whose trust deserves better inputs. 讀者係愛星人,唔係流量。

Appendix A — Instruments of record (registered 2026-07-08)

captioneer.io (the verisleight reader / open-lens). Registered as the paper’s official instrument for rule 3 (combatants get quoted, not believed) and rule 6 (euphemism watchlist). Usage: ○聲稱-tier quotes ship with a deep-link (captioneer.io/?text=…) so any reader can run the exhibit through the lens themselves — on-device, span-anchored, benign readings shown. Limits honoured: it reads words, never minds; unmarked ≠ clean; no truth verdicts, ever — the tier stamp stays the paper’s judgment, the lens is the reader’s own eye. Registered forward-only; archived editions stay byte-locked (rule 8).
