What gathers here: the practical habit that corrects for overestimating how well we are understood β€” the second door opened by meaning-between-minds.

The blind spot has a name: the illusion of transparency. Thomas Gilovich and colleagues showed that people consistently overestimate how visible their inner state is to others β€” liars guessed they'd been caught about twice as often as they actually were, and nervous speakers were sure their fear showed when the audience barely noticed.
