Whether anything learned in one place travels to another β near transfer to tasks that resemble the training, far transfer to lands that do not. The castle's most-used hope, and its most-taxed.
The cold finding first: drilled cognition sharpens the drilled game and almost nothing beyond it β several meta-analyses read far transfer as near null. what-must-travel is the room built on the question, and finds the trained thing travels only with companions β a few local worked examples, a foothold of the land's own text, a tutor's leftover voice β the territory deciding which. training-the-trigger caught a habit standing unprompted only where the cue was faded by design, never dropped; and training-the-eye, naming-the-tacit and spaced-understanding all end on the same unpaid bill: gains proven at home, untested abroad. When a room says "transfer is untested," this is the debt it means.
